ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTORS .  .  . 

                                HANNAH DOHERTY
Started dancing the at the age of 3 and has been dancing since. She is 18 years old and a senior at Ashland High School and currently trains in jazz, ballet, modern, pointe and tap.  She has been teaching and/or assisting since September 2009. For the 2013/2014 dance season Hannah will be teaching Creative Movement; Pre-Ballet/Tiny Tap; Level I Jazz & Tap and Level II/III Jazz & Tap on Monday nights.

                                       ELLIE FRATT
She is 16 years old and a junior at Ashland High School. She has been dancing since she was 3 years old and currently trains in jazz, ballet, modern, pointe and tap. She has been assisting and/or teaching dance since September 2009. For the 2013/2014 dance season Ellie will be teaching Level II Ballet  & Jazz Combo; Creative Movement and Pre-Ballet/Tiny Tap on Wednesday nights. 


                  DESI NIEWINSKI
Desi is a sophomore at Northland College. She has been dancing since she was 3 years old and graduated from Main Street School of Performing Arts with a dance endorsement. She has studied ballet, jazz, tap, modern, lyrical and pointe. She has previously taught at Saint Paul City Ballet and was a choreographer her senior year in high school. She will be teaching Pre-Ballet/Tiny Tap, Creative Movement and Level I Ballet/Jazz on Sundays for the 2013/2014 dance season. 


                                  CLAIRE KARR
Claire is 15 years old and is a sophomore at Washburn High School. She has been dancing for 9 years and started teaching dance last year. She currently trains in jazz, ballet, modern, pointe and tap. This fall Claire will be assisting Hannah with the Level I Jazz & Tap and the Level II/III Jazz & Tap classes  on Monday nights for the 2013/2014 dance season.

                  CAITLIN LEDIN
Caitlin is 13 years old and is in the 8th grade.  She started teaching dance last year. She currently trains in ballet, jazz and tap. She really enjoys teaching kids how to dance. She will be assisting Desi with the Creative Movement and Level 1 Ballet & Jazz classes on Sundays for the 2013/2014 dance season. 

                            ISABEL BRATLEY
Isabel is in the 6th grade at the Ashland Middle School. She started dancing at the age of 8. This is her first year assisting and she will be assisting Ellie with the Level II Ballet & Jazz and the Creative Movement classes on Wednesday nights for the 2013/2014 dance season. 

                  SOPHIA ROOT
Sophia is 12 years old and in the 6th grade at the Ashland Middle School. She has been in dance since she was 5 years old. She will be assisting Desi with the Pre-Ballet/Tiny Tap class on Sunday nights for the 2013/2014 dance season.

                     AVA KARR
Ava is 13 years old and is in the 8th grade. She have been dancing since she was four years old, which makes nine years of experience. Ava also participated in the musical Annie in 2010-2011. Last year, she performed in a Missoula Children's Theater (MCT) musical/play and was chosen to go to camp in Missoula this summer. She wants to teach this year because she loves dance and children. She will be assisting Hannah with the Creative Movement and Pre-Ballet/Tiny Tap class on Mondays for the 2013/2014 dance season. 

                BECKY DUGGER
Becky was certified in March 2013 to teach Zumba and certified in September 2013 for Kids Zumba. She absolutely loves it! She enjoys getting people dancing and having a great time doing it! She teaches adult Zumba class in Ashland and is now adding a kids Zumba class. She will be teaching Zumba for Kids on Fridays for the 2013/2014 dance season.   


                   
                 ELYSE SNIDER

Elyse is a graduate with departmental honors from Barat College in Lake Forest, IL. with a B.A. in acting and direction and a minor study in Dance. Elyse was accepted to Barat with talent scholarships from the Barat theater department and Elgin, IL Area Performing Arts. In 1995, she was one of thirty students in the U.S. to be accepted to La Jolla Playhouse Conservatoire program at the University of California San Diego. She worked as an apprentice for the Playhouse and had the ability to work with professional actors, directors, choreographers and stagehands. After graduation from Barat, Elyse worked as an intern for Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago in the education outreach program helping to make the arts accessible to schoolchildren.

Elyse worked as the Creative Arts Manager for the Elk Grove Park District in Illinois for 8 years before. As part of her job, she taught both dance and theater classes to ages ranging form three to adult. She was instrumental in starting a winter musical production in which she both directed and choreographed. She has worked as an artist in residence at both Cooke Magnet School in Waukegan, IL and Franzen intermediate school in Itasca, IL. Elyse also performed with a modern and jazz company in the suburbs of Chicago, 98.6 Degrees Fahrenheit Dance Company (an Illinois Art Council member), for three years. As part of the companies mission Elyse taught and performed dance lecture all over the Chicago land area.

Elyse then moved to Madison, WI where she both danced and taught for Kanopy Dance Company and school of Contemporary dance. During her 3 year with the company she was also invited to choreograph multiple times. She received rave reviews as one of the “Most innovative and creative new choreographers” by the Capital Times. In Madison, Elyse also taught the Movement in Your World educational outreach program at Madison Ballet, where she also stared as the Crocodile in their world premier ballet Peter Pan.

Elyse then taught for the Minnesota Ballet in Duluth. She has traveled to Silver Bay, MN for Four years in a row now as part of a grant for education outreach with the Minnesota Ballet. During the summer of 2009 Elyse was part of the first ever Bay Front Dance Fest hosted by the Ballet. Some of her pieces both for the ballet and the Duluth Playhouse were performed at the festival. Elyse also choreographed for the Minnesota Ballet’s fundraise Celebrity Dance Challenge for the past 4 years, in which this past year her dance both took the audience and the judges top award. But her most prized experience was choreographing the Minnesota Ballet Company this past September during their sold out performances of Dances and Desserts.

Elyse also taught and choreographed for the Duluth Playhouse. She has taught several children’s and adult based theatrical dance classes. She has worked as the chorographer for the Children’s production The Araboolies of Liberty Street, Lily Purple Plastic Purse, Guys and Dolls JR., High School Musical 2, Robin Hood and her favorite Thirteen. She has also worked as a choreographer with the main stage productions of The Full Monty, The Secret Garden, Rent, Sound of Music and Hair with the Duluth Playhouse. The summer of 2009 Elyse restaged the popular I Love You, Your Perfect, Now Change and toured it to Theater L’Hommedieu in Alexandria, MN. Elyse directed The Christmas Survival Guide, a staged reading of The Good Body and an all-Teen cast of the edgy play Smoking Lessons at the Play Ground Theater for the Duluth Playhouse.

For the 2013/2014 dance season Elyse will be teaching Level III Ballet  & Jazz; Ballet Technique w/Pointe; Jr. Company and Sr. Company on Tuesday nights. She will also teach the Parent/Tot Time class on Thursday mornings.

       
                                            LARK EKBERG
Lark Ekberg (Phillips) has 23 years of training in various dance styles including Classical Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Salsa/Latin dance and Swing/Lindy Hop. Lark also has a background in musical theater which includes acting, choreography, musical accompaniment and producing.

Lark has danced professionally with Beale Fletcher Troupe, and Over the Top Dance Company. She has taught at the Marion School of Dance in North Carolina, the After School Program in Worcester, MA and the Minnesota Ballet School. In addition, she has also conducted private lessons in tap, ballet and pointe.

She has performed such roles as; from the Nutcracker - Party Girl, Dolls, Maid, Bon Bons, Candy Canes, Toy Flutes, Snow, Waltz of the Flowers and Snow Queen Pas de Deux, as well as the Blue Danube, a variation from the ballet Silvia, and Sleeping Beauty Corps de Ballet. She has also performed several works by independent choreographers in Jazz, Hip-Hop, Modern, Lyrical, Tap, and Latin Styles, including my ballets from Schindler's List and Siamese Cats from Lady and the Tramp. She has competed at several dance competitions including placing at the Show Stoppers National in Tap.

Lark studied at the Fletcher School of Dance in Ashville, NC; the Greenville Ballet School in Greenville, SC; the Rutherfordton School of Dance in Rutherfordton, NC; and at 16 she attended the Nutmeg Conservatory of the Arts summer ballet intensive in Torrington, CT where she studied ballet, pointe, partnering, drama and music.

She has taken master classes with David Howard, Kevin Martin, Savion Glover, Chris Gatelli, and has attended workshops with the master teachers from Show Stoppers, Dance Teacher Web Conference & Web, the Chicago International
Salsa Congress, and the Midwest Lindy Fest. She has had the opportunity to study with many amazing teachers and feels very fortunate to learn from some of the best including Beale and Peggy Fletcher, Andrew and Mary Kuharski, and Pam and Carlos Agudelo; and all the instructors at the Nutmeg Conservatory of the Arts.

Lark is a Licensed Gyrotonic Instructor. She took her Gyrotonic Foundation Training with Magali Messac. Ms. Messac is a former principal dancer with the American Ballet Theater and the Pacific Northwest Ballet. Lark feels very fortunate to train with such an amazing dancer and woman.

For the 2013/2014 dance season Lark will be teaching Int/Adv Tap; Jr Company; Sr Company and Pointe II on Thursday nights.
